Gustav Johan Fredrik Dietrichson was born on 8 April 1855 in Wisconsin in the United States. His father, Gustav Frederik Dietrichson (1813–1886), was a priest and later provost in Vestre Toten. Gustav belongs to the branch descending from Lieutenant Colonel Erasmus Dietrichson.
According to Wikipedia he took his theological degree in 1878 and was a chaplain in Hamar from 1880. In 1887 he became parish priest in Stor-Elvdal, and in 1897 he moved to Bodø, where he became provost in 1901. According to Wikipedia he was a deputy member of the Storting for Bodø and Narvik from 1910 to 1912.
In 1910 he became bishop of the diocese of Tromsø, which toward the end of the period was renamed Hålogaland. From 1918 he was bishop of Hamar. He died in 1922. Norwegian Wikipedia gives the date of death as 19 March and the place as Oslo, but this is not confirmed in other sources, and an English source is said to have Hamar. The end of the Hamar period is also given as both 1922 and 1923.
According to Lokalhistoriewiki he was married to Magdalene Karen Fredrikke Ødegaard. Their son Johannes Ødegaard Dietrichson (1885–1973) became dean of Oslo Cathedral and led the secret church leadership during the war. Gustav published several sermons and church articles.
